How to Choose the Right Peltier Air Cooler for Your Enclosure

How to Choose the Right Peltier Air Cooler for Your Enclosure

Fig 1. SANDA Peltier Air Cooler installed on electrical enclosure

Selecting the right Peltier Air Cooler for your enclosure is critical to maintaining optimal operating temperatures for sensitive electronics. A properly sized solid-state air conditioner prevents overheating, extends equipment life, and reduces unplanned downtime. This guide explains how to calculate enclosure heat load, select the correct supply voltage, match the right SANDA model, and verify installation dimensions.

1. How a Peltier Air Cooler Works

A Peltier Air Cooler (also called a thermoelectric or solid-state air conditioner) cools an enclosure without compressors, refrigerants, or filters. It uses the Peltier effect: when DC current passes through the module, one side absorbs heat and the other side dissipates it. The result is reliable, low-maintenance cooling ideal for electrical cabinets, telecom enclosures, and instrument housings.

2. Calculate Your Enclosure Heat Load

Before selecting a model, calculate the total heat load (W) inside the enclosure:

· Internal electronic equipment wattage (power supplies, drives, PLCs)

· Heat conducted through the enclosure walls from the ambient environment

· Solar load (if installed outdoors)

· Other heat sources (batteries, transformers, etc.)

Selection rule: Cooling capacity ≥ Total heat load × 1.2 (safety factor)

3. Choose the Correct Supply Voltage

SANDA Peltier Air Cooler models are available in three DC voltage ranges:

DC Voltage

Typical Application

Available Models

12V DC

Vehicle-mounted, compact enclosures

SD-050-12, SD-060-12, SD-080-12, SD-100-12

24V DC

Industrial control cabinets

SD-050-24, SD-060-24, SD-080-24, SD-100-24

48V DC

Telecom cabinets, data centers

SD-060-48, SD-080-48, SD-100-48, SD-300-48

4. Match the Model to Your Cooling Capacity

Once you know the required cooling capacity, select the appropriate SANDA model:

5. Confirm Installation Dimensions

All SANDA Peltier Air Cooler units are designed for embedded (flush) mounting on the enclosure wall. Before ordering, confirm:

· Cutout dimensions on the enclosure panel

· Clearance space inside the cabinet for air circulation

· Cable entry location and gland size

· Enclosure wall thickness compatibility

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use a Peltier Air Cooler outdoors?

Yes. SANDA units feature corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. For coastal or highly corrosive environments, consider the SDC2 (TEC) series with stainless steel housing and IP55 rating.

Q: Do I need to add refrigerant?

No. Peltier Air Coolers use solid-state thermoelectric modules and require no refrigerant, compressor, or cooling filters. Maintenance is limited to periodic fan cleaning.

Q: What is the warranty?

SANDA standard products include a 12-month warranty from the shipment date. Quality-related failures are covered for free repair or replacement.

Q: Can I get a customized voltage or form factor?

Yes. SANDA provides OEM/ODM services, including parameter customization, appearance customization, and function expansion. Contact our sales team for feasibility evaluation.
